Taxes & Fees

This page provides an overview of municipal taxes, service fees, and permits in the Town of Trinity. Rates are established by Council and through municipal by-laws and are subject to change by resolution of Council.

Property Tax

(Residential and Commercial)

Property tax is assessed annually based on the assessed value of your property, as determined by the provincial assessment authority.

Properties assessed at $66,667 or less are charged a base tax of $300.00 per year.

Properties assessed over $66,667 are charged at a rate of 4.5 mills (0.0045) applied to the assessed value above the threshold.

The same structure and rates apply to both residential and commercial properties.

Vacant Land Tax

Vacant land is defined as a property with no assessed building value. Vacant land is taxed using a tiered structure based on assessed value.

Up to $5,000 assessed value → $100.00
$5,001 to $20,000$200.00
Over $20,000$300.00

Business Tax

Business tax rates are based on business category and are applied using mill rates as follows:

Banks → 225 mills
Pharmacies → 155 mills
Garages → 40 mills
Plumbing and electrical services → 35 mills
Catering (seasonal) → 30 mills
Restaurants (seasonal) → 19 mills
Art galleries (seasonal) → 19 mills
Lounges (seasonal) → 11 mills
Vacation homes (seasonal) → 9 mills
Cottages, cabins, B&Bs, and inns (seasonal) → 10 mills
Other commercial businesses → 8 mills

Seasonal accommodation businesses are charged for six months

All businesses operating within the Town of Trinity are subject to annual business tax.

Minimum business tax → $300.00 per year
Business tax is assessed annually

Water and Sewer Fees

Residential (annual)
Water only → $360.00
Water and sewer → $420.00

Commercial (annual)
Water only → $480.00
Water and sewer → $540.00

Water service is turned on and off by the Town in accordance with Council policy. A service fee of $75 applies for each on or off request.

Slipway Fees

Daily use → $10.00 per day
Annual resident use → $30.00 per year
Annual commercial use → $50.00 per year

Commercial use includes businesses using the slipway as part of their operations.

Permits

General repair permit → $20.00 (valid for one year)
New dwelling (building permit) → $0.35 per square foot (valid for two years)
Additions and stand-alone structures → $0.30 per square foot
Fences and patios → $20.00 (valid for one year)

Issuance of a permit does not replace or override any requirements under the Municipal Plan, Development Regulations, or other applicable Town policies.

Some applications may require review by staff, referral to committees, or approval by Council, depending on the nature and location of the proposed work.

Applicants are encouraged to confirm requirements with the Town Office before starting any work.

Payment Terms

Municipal taxes are due April 30 of each year.
Interest of 2% per month may be applied beginning May 1.

Payments to the Town of Trinity may be made using the following methods:

In person at the Town Office (cash or cheque only) during regular business hours
By mail (cheque payable to the Town of Trinity)
By Interac e-Transfer sent to info@townoftrinity.com

Please include your property or invoice number with all payments to ensure accurate posting to your account.

Important Notes

Not-for-profit organizations are exempt from property tax but are subject to water, sewer, waste collection, and business tax where applicable.

Some residents may qualify for tax assistance through the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development. Please contact the Town Office for more details.
