"Jim Miller following receipt of his award for Cultural Tourism, presented at HNL conference by Minister Terry French."

From News Releases - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador February 19, 2010
The Doug Wheeler Award is presented each year to honour the long-time provincial public servant, who passed away in 1981. The award commemorates his early efforts to promote Newfoundland and Labrador as a tourism destination, and recognizes outstanding contributions to the tourism sector. Minister French presented this year's Doug Wheeler Award to Mayor Jim Miller of Trinity, a dedicated proponent of cultural heritage and tourism development. "Mayor Miller has worked hard to develop partnerships with neighbouring communities which have resulted in economic benefits to the entire region." said Minister French. "He has encouraged the further development of some outstanding tourism attractions, such as the Skerwink Trail, and as general manager of the Trinity Historical Society, and mayor of his community, he has been wholly dedicated to upholding the town's built heritage standards, which has made a visit to Trinity a truly unique visitor experience." This year's Doug Wheeler Award was accompanied by a soapstone and alabaster carving by Happy Valley-Goose Bay artist David Terriak, entitled Strong Silent Type.
